Pre-Arrival to Aberdeen

Wondering what to do in preparation of your arrival, here are some of the items that you may take into consideration:
  1. Renew passport – Most important thing check your passport, better to have the validity date past your tenure abroad.
  2. Other Documentation – Please make sure you comply to the prevailing travel requirement. (nak elak stranded or denied boarding nnt)
  3. Accommodation – It is best if you could secure your accommodation prior to arrival. Boleh tengok dekat online application such as Zoopla or Rightmove. You can directly contact the agent or better to reach someone who already in the country to help you (viewing, confirm etc.). We managed to sign the agreement while in Malaysia and once we arrived, the unit is ready to move in.
  4. Bank Account – It is also best to have an international account so that you can make any transfer locally. For us, we register to Wise application. So far it is easy and secured. Even I can order a debit card to spend in Aberdeen.

Upon travelling have some cash with you but not too much. Most of transactions we saw using card rather than cash. If you are travelling with transit, it better to spare some cash for the local currency (for food etc.). Example, if you transit in AMS, you can use GBP but most probably the will return the change in EUR.

That is all for now! Happy travelling! :)

New Journey Abroad: Granite City

10 October 2021 – The day the new adventure begins, living with the family abroad for three years (tentatively). Following my wife as she pursues her PhD studies at the University of Aberdeen.

It’s been almost three weeks since I’ve been settling in to my new surroundings, and so far so good.

A city that is quiet, friendly, and less crowded. We are staying close to the University and the City, and we spend most of our time walking around the area.

Nonetheless, rindu Malaysia. haha.
